Reflection on Assignment 5: PowerPoint Interaction
In completing Assignment 5, I acquired new skills in creating interactive content using PowerPoint, specifically in designing a hyperlinked jeopardy game for a Harry Potter-themed activity. I learned how to incorporate buttons, hyperlinks, and action settings to create a dynamic, interactive experience for students. One challenge I encountered was the confusion between PowerPoint’s desktop and regular versions, which had similar names but different features. Next time, I will explore these features more thoroughly to avoid issues and ensure smoother functionality for interactive elements.
Using Data Collection Tools as a Teacher
I envision gathering information on student involvement and comprehension using Qualtrics and similar tools as a future middle school English teacher. For instance, after reading a novel, I may make surveys to gauge how well students comprehend literary themes or character development. I could modify my teaching strategies and offer more focused support if I could use this data to pinpoint the areas in which my students are having difficulty. Additionally, it will help me get input on how effective my lessons are, which will help me keep improving as a teacher.
Technology-Related Skill to Learn Next
Making interactive online tests with tools like Google Forms or Kahoot! is a technology-related ability I'd like to acquire next. Within the next two weeks, I want to develop a completely interactive test for a topic that will be taught. I'll look into tutorials and practice using the platform for various quiz kinds in order to do this. I'll evaluate my work by making at least one quiz every week and getting student input to improve my strategy before completing the design.
I struggled a lot with the buttons when I was making my interactive PowerPoint game. My action settings and hyperlinks frequently didn't function as intended, particularly when clicking on certain buttons or switching between slides. I also got into problems when I tried to alter the buttons' look and make them more aesthetically pleasing without sacrificing their functionality. This discrepancy annoyed me, and I came to the conclusion that I needed to learn more about how these interactive features are handled differently in the standard and desktop versions of PowerPoint. In the future, I will thoroughly test every action and connection before completing the design.
